Guild Chat

Please remember to watch what you’re saying in guild chat. We do have a policy of no excessive swearing and the use of full English in chat. Please don’t rob others of the delight of discovering something wonderful. All conversations relating to storylines are not allowed on guild chat (this will be reviewed 9th January 2013) and must be kept to consensual private conversations and the spoiler room on this forum. While people are encouraged to share places they've enjoyed and where jumping puzzles are in guild chat, please leave something for people to discover when they get there!


Multiple Guilds

There is no way that we can excel in every aspect of Guild Wars 2 (or would want to, sounds exhausting), so there’s no problem with us if you want to be part of other guild(s) too. If nothing else, friends of friends are useful things when it comes to building a bigger community. However we do expect you to continue interacting with this guild. If we think you’re not giving us enough love, someone will poke you to ask why.

We will be accepting people in the Guild Wars 2 guild for whom we are not their primary guild. Again this is beneficial from a community viewpoint. These folks may be people we consider guild friends (old allies for example) or just interested parties who want to hang out. We’ll be monitoring this group closely as the game progresses to see if anything more in terms of policy needs to be done, but they won’t have any say in how the guild is run or access to the vault (more on that later).


Inviting Others

Everyone who wants to join MYST needs to go through the application process without exception. This may seem over the top but we need to do this for a few reasons - the guild needs to be introduced to the applicant, it provides us an avenue of contact outside the game, it gets them used to talking to others in the guild, they need to get assigned a mentor and they need to get a forum account so they can appear on the roster.

Do not invite your friend to the guild without making them go through the application process. You won’t be doing them any favours as they’ll get dumped in the middle of a group of people talking around them because they haven’t been introduced. It also subverts the entire point of the mentors who are giving up their time to help with one of our hardest issues.

We constantly strive to make the application process as painless as possible, and you can help by asking your friend to drop your name in their application. We aim to get all applications reviewed within 48 hours, but be aware that we will stop accepting new members for a few days if we get a lot of people want to join at once. This helps us to create a tight community of players.


Spending Influence

Note that all the influence you earn will go towards the guild’s total for that server. This means if we have to migrate server we will have to start earning influence all over again and you won’t have access to any guild perks while you are not on our home server.

Do not use your Tome of Influence until we’re sure that we’ll be staying on Aurora Glade server

If you'd like to use your Tome of Influence then please do. It would be great if some could use their tome while representing our sister guild Mystic Pirates [YARR], which we will be using for additional storage and could use the influence to be able to build bigger upgrades without having to separate people out at a later date to earn influence. You can get an invitation to Mystic Pirate [YARR] by contacting any of the leaders.

We’ve been discussing how we’ll spend influence here.


The Vault

The primary use for the vault is to share crafting supplies with other members for levelling crafting and making items for guild members. All ranks will have access to the guild bank to put items into it. Access to the guild bank is a privilege based on trust. Anyone found to be abusing that trust will be dealt with severely and may mean that access to the bank is revoked for that rank. Leaders, Mentors, Specialists and Members will have access to take items out of the guild bank. If you are a New Member or a Returning Member, you can ask someone with access to the vault to retrieve items for you.

Just as in Guild Wars you must not take items out of the guild bank to sell on the trading post or to pass to players outside the guild. You must be considerate about what items you take out of the bank too. Only take out materials for the crafts that your primary character is currently levelling and for around their current levels (approximately 50 points) unless you are crafting for another member. This will help ensure that as many people as possible can benefit from the contents that everyone is feeding into the vault.

We hope that by enforcing these rules we can reassure everyone that their materials will be put to good use and they will feel that adding surplus materials to the vault is a positive thing to do.

The secondary guild, Mystic Pirates [YARR], has been made and an additional guild vault is being built. This vault will only be accessible to leaders and is for the storage of more valuable items. It would be useful if some could use their Tomes of Influence while representing this guild to assist with the build.


Events

We’re aiming to run a pretty full schedule of events after some shakedown time. To make the most of the events keep an eye on the Events calendar and consider adding it to your phone or similar to get reminders about events. You can also check the events room for sign up threads and alike.

We’re introducing the notion of timed and open events for Guild Wars 2. Open events have a start time but no set end time and people can leave anytime they like. Examples of these kind of events include a WvW evening, or adventuring through a PvE area.

Timed events are usually a bit more serious and require groups to complete, such as dungeons or PvP tournaments. You must make sure you have enough time for these events before you start, as leaving early may waste 4 other people’s time. Every event entry has a start and end time which are estimates for how long we expect the event to take. When in doubt, don’t sign up or attend. Please arrive on time or, even better, early. Anyone arriving later than 5 minutes behind schedule may not be allowed to continue in the event, at the discretion of the event host.

Of course, anyone and everyone are able to organise events. Please contact a leader to have your event added to the guild calendar.

Dealing with inappropriate behaviour

If you see any member acting in an inappropriate manner (eg harassment, swearing excessively, discussing spoilers in guild chat) please take screenshots and contact a leader or mentor immediately. Please note that the leaders have been briefed to immediately remove anyone from the guild who is negatively affecting the enjoyment of several guild members, for example by excessively swearing or blurting out spoilers. People kicked for this may be re invited depending on the nature of the incident.

Remember to check your inventory before deleting chars, kids!
Those Deluxe/CE items might end up in the inventory or mail of the first char you create, if it isn't a /bonus command.

I'm having a bit of a dilemma here, since all of my old GW1 buddies (outside of MYST) are planning on playing on "Far Shiverpeaks". Which sucks obviously, since I've been playing with some of them since 2005-2006. So chances are pretty big I'll join them instead, guess I'll just have to guest on Aurora Glade often ;) This will probably make me a " people in the Guild Wars 2 guild for whom we are not their primary guild" :P

:( I understand the pressures of having guilds you want to be part of on different servers. Still, can't say I'm not sad for hearing this. Please don't be be a stranger to us?
