New headset

Post » 04 Jul 2012 08:24

Hello MYSTies,

I'm in need of a new headset. This is what I'm using right now.. I got them from a discount and while the sound quality is good enough, the frame is not the most comfortable. Keep them on long enough and they'll tear up your skin :x

What I'm looking for in the new headset is build quality, durability, earcups and wired connection (no bluetooth etc.). Should also be comfortable to wear as I don't have speakers at all. So looks something like this.

I'm not very familiar with audio device manufacturers. What are you guys using for headsets? Any brands you would recommend? Any models? Price should be around 60€ tops, but I'm willing to spend a little bit more for super quality :D

I am on my second one of these in 5 years: http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-5hv2

Does have features you probably won't use, such as being pull-apart-able for transport, but I loves them.

Fatal1ty's

Are you a frequent headset breaker like me? If so; ^ that's what you'll want, found it to be the most durable thing going and it's mega cheap for a decent headset. :P

EDIT - Very sorry for the death link, my mobile thought it'd go ahead and do that treat for me...

I usually go for the combo headphones + clip-on microphone.
I now have the Sennheiser HD280 pro. Not because I'm a DJ but because the foldability made traveling with them easier.
In your pricerange (even cheaper) I would recommend the Sennheiser HD201.

I had them as a student, and despite the cheap looks, they sound awesome and are very durable (my brother inherited them, and still uses them). It costs around €20, which leaves ample budget space for a decent clip-on. I usually clipped it to the headphone wire, because I always forgot to take it off when I got up (but never forget to take off my headphones).

I can recommend Sennheiser, too. They offer a wide range of products with good production and sound quality. So you can just pick out what suits you best.

Or you could use your current ones only as a mic for having around your neck and get awesome studio headphones like AKG 242 or something along the likes of that. Tis my setup.

I have a SteelSeries Siberia V2 in BRIGHT ORANGE. Its really comfy and really good sound quality. Would really recommend as you can normally find some really good deals if you hunt around.

I stalked this forum as my poor Logitechs were getting a bit battered. I ended up with a SteelSeries Siberia V2 as well (GREEN!). Had them a week or so now and they's lovely. Thanks for the recommendations guys. :)

Apologies for giving this a possibly unnecessary bump - but I thought I'd put my two cents in here. I was recently looking for a new headset but didn't want to spend over £20 or so.

I ended up buying the Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 (it's gone down in price £4 since I bought it ... TYPICAL!!!!). I'm finding it very good. Only quam is that it's a bit bass heavy along the frequencies. But better than the other way :) This can also be sorted with equaliser/software, whatever.

Good noise cancellation and clarity (It's USB btw). Everyone has given it a 8/10 for clarity on different VOIP programmes.
